Museum touring

The past few weekends we have been blessed with gorgeous weather, but this last Saturday was a little different as the rain and chilly air returned to St Petersburg. We decided it was good weather to check out a local museum, as you saw on our previous post we were impressed by the Russian State Museum. Here is Nikki in the courtyard across the street from our apartment, showing the return of her winter coat, in June.. Here is Nikki shopping for our next dining room set, fortunately for me the pieces at the Museum are not for sale, or at least not any where near our price range.

The inlaid wood in the floor is simply amazing.

Like most things in Russia, there is definitely a motif that bigger is better. Here are a few exhibits that truly dwarfed us to display their grandeur.

All in all a great way to spend a rainy Saturday. We are looking forward to our next museum day, the city has many more to offer.

I wonder how many people trip over each other in the Russian Museum

Mostly because you find yourself drawn to stare at the ceilings as they are practically exhibits in and of themselves.

Here are some pictures of some of the ornate ceilings, I really am impressed.

This one below is my personal favorite, this room had a picture like this along every wall.

The floors are beautiful as well.

Maybe in a future post we will post some of the displays that actually hang on the walls in the Russian Museum.

The school where Nikki works hosted their spring festival recently, and no spring school event is complete without tug of war... how precious.

Something to Celebrate

I am pretty sure this sign at one of the walking bridges across the Moika Canal says, in fact orders people, not to smoke... That is a rare sight here in Russia. If only people in St Petersburg had a history of respecting street signs and local administrative rules then this would be my new favorite place to stand outside.

Another weekend, Another Parade, Our celebration

As some of you may realize, today is our wedding anniversary. We celebrated last weekend, of course the city had a holiday of their own, celebrating the City, you may call it like a founders day, or the cities birthday if you wish. Unfortunately the parading marching bands were not celebrating our wedding anniversary, but we enjoyed it none the less.

What swims in the Canal?

The canals are swimming with tour boats, they usually move along at a pretty brisk pace, you can imagine our surprise when we saw this tour boat doing a header with the canal wall. I wonder if you pay extra for the thrill of being in a tour boat/canal wall collision. Oddly enough yesterday we also saw a phony swan swimming in the canal.
